Grass is always greener

On our recent trip to San Francisco, we went into a Korean supermarket. While in the meat department I noticed that every package included a piece of plastic grass.  I'm use to seeing it in a box of pre packed sushi, but what are they saying by slapping it onto a fish head. Just food for thought.

Our eggs for breakfast

Now that our hens our laying, I have to make sure and eat more eggs. I'm not going to an all egg diet just yet, but maybe every other day.
We have already given away a dozen this month and I know wife wants to continue to give away all the extras we have.
I got a can of corned beef hash to have with my eggs. That was something my dad would eat when I was a kid, and I thought was disgusting. Taste sure do change as you grow.

Let the eggs begin

One of the first things we did after moving to the country was to get chickens. I converted a new shed into a coop inside a fenced area the previous owner had used for his dogs.
We went to the local farm store and bought 6 young chickens.
After months of waiting our girls (5 hens and what turned out to be a rooster) have begun laying with the new year.

A new year

So I've made it back to this blog. Why you ask? Because I have random fun in my heart and I need a place to express it.  I know New Years resolutions are easy to do and to break but there are times in life when they seem completely appropriate for the time in your life. Recently Lou Mongello had a post on his Instagram account that expressed exactly what I plan to do this year.
Thanks Lou and thanks everybody for visiting. Now let's start a great year.

Day off grilling

Today was my day off from work so we decided to grill out before the days get too hot or buggy in these parts. We turned to the "cooking in the moment" cookbook by Andrea Reusing for a spring idea.
We decided on cast iron skillet fresh trout and headed out to see our local fish monger and then to the grocery store for some other weekly supply needs.
It feel very primal when you are cooking whole animals. Off to the grill with you fishies.
Add to it some fava greens mixed with mixed cherry tomatos as a side dish and we my friends are eating very very well.
