a short road long traveled

yesterday was a frustrating day for me.  on the one hand i had a great time taking my brother-in-law to  watch manchester united defeat fc barcelona in an exhibition game at fed ex field outside washington dc, for his birthday with my wife and one of his friends.  on the other hand we missed all but 2 minutes of the first half trying to get there.

let me say i hate I95 between richmond and washington. it is three lanes the entire way yet still there are always traffic problems.  we left for the game 4 hours early, which i thought gave us at least a 1 hour cushion to get to the game.  we planned to drive to springfield and take the metro to the stadium.  as soon as we left richmond traffic slowed to 20-30 miles an hour, not due to an accident just due to the number of cars. so three hours later we had traveled the 85 miles to the station, but this was not the end of our traveling problems.  once on the metro we were informed over the speakers that the metro would have to stop and sit at several stations due to the fact track work was being done and trains in both directions were using the same track.  at least we were not alone, the trains were filled with other folks headed to the match whom had also been delayed by traffic.

i am a person whom hates to be late, but asking those traveling with me to leave 6 hours early on a trip that on a perfect day may take 2 hours seemed a bit much.

oh well we all survived i guess. happy 30th travis.
