The airport

I'm waiting it the airport for my brother to arrive from florida. Just gonna say how much I love airports. They are so exciting. People coming and going. The excitement of trips getting ready to begin. The happiness of reunions with lived one. The relief to be back in familiar surroundings.

One of my favorite parts is honestly the people watching. Why across from me right now sits a couple, I'm guessing in their early fifties, both what I would consider to be waaaaay over-dressed for plane travel. The man, his blue blazer pressed so crisp it still stands up as he sits down, is also wearing a wide brimmed hat, the type I would imagine you only wear on a cruise ship to shade your face as you sleep. His wife wearing what would to most women be consider every piece of jewelry they own.

The business men talk continuously on their phones, as to appear more important than what they actually are. A fat lady is sleeping in a chair, her purse rising and falling on her chest as she breathes. The military folks some in their best dress uniforms, talk with those in their civilian duds. An old lady gets up for the fifth time to check the arrival/departure board, expecting it to change, she checks her watch and sits down again. The family running late scrambles by leaving small children along the way, stop for a moment for all to catch up then continue rushing along.

Ahhhh the airport such a magical place.

New motto

Found this image on tumbler and am making it my new motto. I have a very hard time making the first step to any kind of change to be honest, so I am posting this everywhere to help remind me what can happen if you just have the guts to take action.

How far for a buck

Okay I don't mean to sound stuck up with this post, but what the heck it's my blog.

So as I tried to find a place park downtown near our condo today I was having no success. What I noticed was a large number of people with kids who were headed to the circus and taken up all the spots in the area. Now the arena where the circus is being held is 7 blocks from my condo and there are 5 parking decks within 1 block of the arena, but of course you have to pay for the decks. So what is the price that would be breaking point for you to walk about half a mile as oppose to spend a few bucks and walk across the street?

The deck right across from the arena entrance costs $5, and I payed that on a regular basis before I moved downtown. I never would give a thought to driving in larger and larger circles looking for a place to parallel park, blocks from where I needed to be and the hoof it. There are a number of older guys I know that don't pay to park based on the principle that there is always somewhere to park for free.

I don't know what do you think world? Do you pay to park and what is the most you would pay for it? Maybe I need to value money more.

hat eater

a note to the man who ate my hat,

i wanted to thank you for eating my hat.  my head has never felt to free.  free to enjoy the warm sun, a cool breeze, a refreshing spring rain shower, and oh yes a blob of pigeon poop right in the bald spot. so to you the man who ate my hat i say enjoy my hat as it takes two months to crawl through your digestive trrack.

A piece of family history

While my brother and myself were helping move some furniture at my dads house I spied what turns out to be a little bit of family history on his dresser. My dad was born in what is now Trieste, Italy, at the time it was its own independent city state. His mom was a local Italian girl and his dad an American soldier in the army stationed in Italy. I knew that my dad had come th the states when he was young but I had no idea he had been this young. The date on this would have made him just under 6 months old.

It's cool to think of my grandmother bringing her infant son across the Atlantic on a US naval ship. Glad I got a look at this before it got packed away again.

Faucet update

Apparently having a shelf jammed in your back is not good for it .

Mr Sunday handyman

This Sunday morning I got to play handyman, which I should do more at my house but today was helping my dad. I had bought him a new kitchen faucet since the flow in his old one had pissed me off when it took 5 minutes to fill a pot for pasta. So today was install day.
Step one arrive with tools

Check
Step two unpack and make sure your not missing anything.

Check
Step three cram your fat ass under the sink and wrench your arms into unholy positions.

Check
Step four turn the water and accept the glory of the masses of adoring fans ( aka pickles my dads dog)

Another job well done. Pat my own back.

Random annoyance

This may seem to be a petty thing to be annoyed by but what the hell its my blog I can say what I want. The thing I saw this morning that irritates me for some reason is vanity license plates or bumper stickers with anything to to do with the "mpg" of the car. At what point did this become such a bragging point. Whenever I see it on a new hybrid car what it means is that this person is shoving it in everyone else's face that they have more disposable income than the rest of us and not only that but they care about the environment more than us. If you really cared about mpgs you would be riding a scooter and if you REALLY cared about the environment you would be taking the bus or walking your ass to the Starbucks to put in your order for a venti two Splenda extra hot double cupped three pump Carmel non fat latte.

Long live the gas guzzling crowd with cars they can't afford to replace because they are to busy doing actual work so the hybrid driving crowd can pull through the drive through window for there food.
